14 | What About Other Odoerfers in the US?
Sometime before 1800, John may have encouraged his cousin, Georg, to come to the United States. Georg Odoerfer was living in Washington County, Md., Conococheaque district in 1800, was over 45 years old, and had nine children, 4 males and 5 females.
It could be that the people now living in the United States that still use the last name Odoerfer, including George Odoerfer, in Princeton, New Jersey, and A.K., Edward, Duane, Earl, and Burnell Odoerfer near Marlette, Michigan are descendants of Georg. I have written George and Duane, but at the time of publication of this website, have not heard from them. I have talked on the telephone with Georg’s mother, Irmgard Odoerfer, and she told me that her son’s name is George, his father’s name was George, and his grandfather’s name was George.
Al Field indicates that he believes these Odoerfers migrated to the U.S. later in the 1800’s, and may not be descendants of the George Odoerfer of the 1800 census.
